Pellet Combustion Equipment
The pellet stove was originally developed by Dr. Jerry Whitfield, a Seattle, Washington, aeronautical engineer. Stoves continue to dominate the North American pellet combustion market and have received their best reception in areas with a tradition of cord wood space heating. Most regions of the country where grass pellets may have potential have a tradition of central heating and cooling systems. To have significant market penetration potential, a pellet heating system will likely require a significant price advantage and comparable convenience to current fuels: natural gas, propane, and electric heat pumps. The system will also need to provide domestic hot water heating throughout the year. Unfortunately, boilers proven to burn grass pellets are not available and those that offer promise are expensive compared to conventional space-and water-heating appliances.
